From our Pastors: A Statement Regarding Current Events in our Community, State and Nation
Oak Lawn UMC, along with our outreach ministries, Dallas Responds, remains steadfast in our commitment to serving and supporting all communities, especially those who find themselves most polarized and marginalized in the current political climate.
As we have always done, we continue to provide warm meals, offer shelter during inclement weather, organize workshops to equip individuals with the knowledge to protect their rights, and serve as a safe haven that welcomes everyone without exception. These efforts reflect our unwavering dedication to upholding the dignity and rights of every person who enters our doors.
Our mission remains unchanged: to proactively engage with and support the community. While news of current threats may inspire fear, we choose to focus on being a source of safety, hope, and strength for those who need it most.
As a church, we will continue to stand in solidarity with our neighbors, offering the resources and support they deserve, guided by love and justice.
ABOUT
Oak Lawn United Methodist Church is…
- Your neighborhood church and community center!
- A bilingual community that is radically inclusive where all are welcome. Really, we mean it. No exceptions!
- A congregation of the United Methodist Church (UMC).
- An intentional community that affirms and celebrates LGBTQIA+ people and their families. We are a Reconciling United Methodist congregation.
- A spiritual community where questions are welcomed, diversity is valued, creativity is nurtured, peace is cultivated, and life is renewed!
- A people that values respect for one another regardless of differences. We seek to create a community centered in generosity, authenticity, reconciliation, playfulness, and creativity. We believe that everyone brings to the table something unique that no one else can offer.
- A place that follows the transforming life and teachings of Jesus while accepting the wisdom from all religious traditions.
“This remarkable congregation embodies Christ’s borderless hospitality through their unwavering commitment to welcoming all and creating a safe place for people to find physical, emotional, and spiritual belonging. Their impartial and unconditional inclusivity beautifully demonstrates philoxenia, the “love of strangers,” a core ethical and spiritual value and essential practice that defines participation in God’s kingdom.”
