Preamble

We, at Oak Lawn UMC, believe that everyone deserves to be:

Loved
Heard
Affirmed
AND Respected

We, at Oak Lawn UMC, believe that as a church it is possible to offer this to one another when we:

Listen
Learn
Appreciate diversity
AND Love God above all else and our neighbor as ourselves

Therefore, as individual parts of the church, we
pledge to move towards this corporate reality so that the church can be:

A voice for the voiceless
A home for the wanderer
A respite for the weary
A balm for the hurting

God’s presence in the world.

Call to Worship

.

How will we be a voice for the voiceless

A voice that seeks justice and Peace

For the silenced, the ignored, the unheard?

How will we be a home for the wanderer

A place of welcome and Peace

For the immigrant and the refugee?

How will we be a respite for the weary

A safe harbor, a refuge of Peace

For all who flee violence and terror?

How will we be a balm for the hurting

A healing presence, a way of Peace

For the trafficked, the exploited, the violated?

God, make us to be the ones who give Peace

Because we are your presence in the world

UMH 399  "Take My Life, and Let It Be"  |WORDS: Frances R. Havergal, 1873

1. Take my life, and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee.

2. Take my voice, and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be
filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
every power as thou shalt choose.

3. Take my will, and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee.

Scripture

Rev. Rachel Baughman

 Luke 21:1-4 (CEB)

Listen to the Word of God

Looking up, Jesus saw rich people throwing their gifts into the collection box for the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow throw in two small copper coins worth a penny.3 He said, “I assure you that this poor widow has put in more than them all. 4 All of them are giving out of their spare change. But she from her hopeless poverty has given everything
she had to live on.”

This is the Word of God, for the People of God
Thanks be to God

UMH 451 "Be Thou my Vision" |  WORDS: Ancient Irish; trans. by Mary E. Byrne, 1905; versed by Eleanor H. Hull, 1912, alt.

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
naught be all else to me, Save that thou art
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou and thou only, first in my heart,
great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.

3. Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

4. Great God of heaven, my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
