Community Outreach at OLUMC

Ways You Can Help

Every act of generosity creates another pathway toward dignity.

Homelessness cannot be solved by one organization alone.

It takes neighbors, volunteers, businesses, healthcare providers, congregations, and compassionate people working together to build a community where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.

Whether you give an hour of your time or make a financial gift, you become part of someone’s journey toward stability.

Make a Financial Gift

The most effective way to support Pathways to Dignity is through financial giving.

Unlike donated goods, financial gifts allow us to respond immediately to changing needs—whether that’s purchasing medications, replacing identification documents, securing transportation, preventing someone from losing housing, or responding to extreme weather.

Your generosity also sustains the people who make this ministry possible, including community outreach, case management, healthcare navigation, and street outreach.

Every dollar expands our ability to meet people where they are and walk with them toward stability, wellness, and belonging.

Together, we are investing in lasting change—not simply temporary relief.

Healing happens in community.  We connect neighbors with mental health providers, counseling resources, recovery services, and pastoral care.

Summer Cooling Center

When dangerous heat arrives, our campus becomes a place of refuge.

During periods of extreme heat we offer:

  • Air-conditioned space

  • Cold water

  • Cooling supplies

  • Resource navigation

  • Wellness checks

  • Connections to additional emergency services

Hours may expand during declared heat emergencies.

Winter Weather Shelter

When severe winter weather threatens our neighbors, Oak Lawn UMC partners with community organizations to provide emergency overnight shelter and warming services.

Depending on weather conditions, services may include:

  • Overnight shelter

  • Warm meals

  • Blankets

  • Cold-weather supplies

  • Case management and referrals following the emergency

Shelter activation follows City of Dallas and partner emergency guidelines.

Street Outreach

Some neighbors cannot come to us.  So we go to them.

Our outreach team regularly serves throughout the Oak Lawn neighborhood by building trusted relationships, delivering essential supplies, providing health navigation, and connecting individuals directly to housing and supportive services.

Our Approach

Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?” we ask “What happened to you, and how can we help?”

Pathways to Dignity is built on evidence-based practices that recognize lasting change happens through trusted relationships. We combine radical hospitality, trauma-informed care, coordinated case management, healthcare navigation, and community partnerships to help people move from crisis toward stability.

We believe homelessness is not an identity—it is a circumstance. Every person bears the image of God and deserves the opportunity to flourish. No act of compassion is too small, because a bottle of water, a listening ear, or help replacing an ID can become the first step on the pathway toward housing, health, and belonging.
