Transgender Day of Remembrance

Honoring Lives. Lamenting Loss. Renewing Our Commitment to Love.

Each November, Oak Lawn United Methodist Church gathers with our Dallas community to honor the memory of transgender and gender-diverse people whose lives have been lost to anti-trans violence and hate.

We believe this sacred time calls the Church to do what Jesus taught: to remember, to lament, and to act.

A Sacred Space of Remembrance and Hope

Through prayer, music, story, and ritual, we lift the names of those who have been taken from us and celebrate the beauty, courage, and resilience of trans and gender-nonconforming people—our siblings, neighbors, family, and beloved friends.

This service is both memorial and movement:

  • Memorial, because we pause to name the pain and acknowledge the injustice that continues to claim lives.

  • Movement, because we recommit ourselves to creating a world where every body is safe, affirmed, and loved as God created them to be.

TDOR Worship & TransGiving Gathering

Date: Sunday, November 23
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Oak Lawn United Methodist Church Sanctuary

Join us for a special morning worship service of remembrance, reflection, and hope, followed by our TransGiving Meal—a shared table of gratitude, community, and chosen family.

We will also celebrate the opening of our Trans Clothing Closet, a ministry that provides free, gender-affirming clothing for our trans and gender-diverse siblings. Visitors are invited to browse, be styled, or swap items in an environment that is safe, affirming, and joyfully inclusive. Feel free to bring clothing donations to share.

This trilingual (English/Spanish/ASL) service will include music, prayer, reflection, and a candlelight remembrance of lives lost to anti-trans violence, followed by food and fellowship as we live into the vision of beloved community.

Book Launch Celebration: TransparentSEE

Date: Friday, November 21
Time: 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Location: Oak Lawn United Methodist Church

Join us for an evening of connection, storytelling, and joy as we celebrate the release of TransparentSEE: How I Learned to SEE Through My Journey as a Parent of a Transgender Kiddo.
The evening will feature live music, food trucks, curated swag bags, and a chance to meet the author and hear about the journey behind the book.

Registration is required to ensure a safe and affirming event for all attendees.

Our Commitment

At Oak Lawn UMC, we amplify God’s love through radical hospitality, serving our neighbors, and standing up for justice.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with our transgender and gender-diverse siblings.

We grieve the violence they face, celebrate their sacred worth, and pledge to make our church a safe place for every body.

If you are a person of trans experience or a loved one seeking spiritual care, know that you are not alone. Our pastors and care team are here to listen, pray, and walk alongside you.
