Recovery Ministry & Groups

A Community of Healing, Hope & Belonging

At Oak Lawn UMC, recovery is more than a program — it’s a way of life rooted in grace, community, and transformation. Every week, our church opens its doors to more than 500 people who gather for 12-step meetings, support groups, and shared moments of healing. Whether you are walking through the early days of recovery, supporting a loved one, or seeking spiritual grounding on your journey, you are welcome here.

Our recovery ministry is guided by the belief that God’s grace meets us exactly where we are — and never leaves us there. We honor the courage it takes to begin again and recognize recovery as a deeply spiritual path that leads to freedom, connection, and wholeness.

What We Offer

  • 12-Step Meetings: Daily gatherings of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Crystal Meth Anonymous (CMA), Al-Anon, and other recovery fellowships that provide safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces for all people.

  • Pastoral and Peer Support: Our pastors and volunteers walk alongside individuals in recovery, offering prayer, listening, and community care.

  • Special Services & Events: Recovery-focused worship, meditations, and annual observances that celebrate the gift of sober living and spiritual growth.

  • The Strangely Warmed Kitchen: A ministry of hospitality that extends our open table to all who gather for recovery meetings, sharing meals, coffee, and fellowship.

Our Commitment

We believe that recovery and faith go hand in hand — both are journeys of surrender, transformation, and grace. As a congregation rooted in radical inclusion, Oak Lawn UMC celebrates the diversity of all who find their way to our doors: LGBTQ+ individuals, people of every background and story, and anyone seeking hope and healing. Here, no one walks alone.

Join us in the ongoing work of recovery, restoration, and renewal — for ourselves, our community, and the world God loves.
